AUSTRALIAN BOOTY is a very political. very funny and very sexy work. Culturally/ historically Aussies don’t really celebrate funny, sexy political black women… in fact we kinda find them taboo and suspicious…. and we certainly don’t like them to have a platform or profile. Critics constantly ask the question, how come Candy B is not a superstar already? Peter Taggart asked this again in the Artshub review below. I think the answer to that question is that I am unfamiliar and folks don’t know what to expect.

I am the unknown…. I speak from the heart… that’s political and that’s confronting.

I made this show because I feel deeply about diversifying the idea of beauty and moving beyond the single-story dominating our Aussie identity. I made this show because I want to be heard. I made this show because I still do not exist.

If you want to see a cultural shift and believe people of colour have a place on the scene, I need you to help me push my show.

Money is not the only currency I need to continue to work as an Artist. I need numbers. I need an audience.

I know it’s cold, I know it looks like I’m doing good without your support- but my task is quite mammoth and I need you. So buy a ticket, buy another ticket and buy a ticket for your mum.

You know I will return the love- and I got plenty to give!

“Candy B has a killer sense of humor… everything about her is big, from her booty to her talent “ The Brag

In a sumptuous hour of jokes, stories and original song Australia Booty will shock, tickle and make you wanna shake what your mama gave you.

Candy B grew up in the Aussie suburbs watching Home and Away and playing with Barbie Dolls. In high school she straightened her afro and eventually gave up on ever finding a pair of jeans that would fit over her rather “phat” derriere. Not “fitting in” would become a theme in her story. This fat-bottomed-gal’s killer journey from booty shame to booty pride makes for some juicy-ass tales. Featuring hit tracks “Ya Mama’s So Phat” and “Slap That Ass” join Candy B as she explores the depth, width and circumference of the booty myth Oz-style.

Candy B knows your pain she knows the pain of being female and curvaceous with a body made for touching and a booty most bodacious. She understands feeling like your body is wrong and the pants are right, like you have to fight- food, magazines and Australian television. But Candy B says don’t believe the hype!

In her debut stand up comedy show Candy B will get to the bottom of things and leave everyone feeling a little bit more comfortable in their skin.

Candy B grew up watching Home and Away and playing with Barbie Dolls, like any Aussie girl. Throughout high school she straightened her hair and eventually gave up on ever finding a pair of jeans that would actually fit over her bottom. In her 20’s she travelled the country and the UK dropping tracks about “lovin the rubbin’” of her inner thighs and celebrating her “holy bootay” with hip hop comedy act SISTA SHE. It could be said that Candy has always been obsessed with her ass. She has often wondered why it was teased and despised in her childhood (her butt being the butt of many a joke, so to speak.) How come it gets such an overwhelmingly positive reception overseas and barely a second glance in Oz. How can the same booty be more beautiful in one country than another? In an effort to find out where other Australian women sit on the topic she sent out a micro survey to over 200 friends, relatives and peers, the big question was this:

On a scale of 1 -10, (10 being “My booty rocks big style” and 1 being “My booty sucks hard out”) kindly tell me how you feel about your bottom?

The results were extraordinary and sit at the heart of this brand new comedy show.

In a sumptuous hour of stories, jokes and music Australian Booty will explore the depth, width and circumference of the beauty myth.
